This was the view from my balcony over Phnom Penh this morning; I am staying in a small guesthouse called The Cheeky Monkey based on the Tonnle Bassac region of Phnom Penh, it’s a small guesthouse that’s located on the top floor of a building and it provides awesome views of the city.
I have been here for the past week and it has been an awesome stay, there is a small bar that I have been hanging out in most afternoons just over the street, Phnom Penh is now one of my favourite cities – I haven’t been here before but I can say that the people here are probably the most friendly I have met during my travels in South East Asia. If you do come to Cambodia for a holiday or whilst you are travelling make sure that you head down to some of the islands off of the coast. These islands are pretty much unspoilt, there are a number of them off of the coast and six or seven of them have small resorts available to tourists.
When you come into Cambodia I would suggest using Phnom Penh as your base, it is centrally located and you will need to come through it going between Siem Reap and the south coast. If you do that I would suggest staying with my new friends at the Cheeky Monkey, as it is an awesome please to stay.
It may not be the best place to stay for the older people among you, as there are a large number of steps to climb to get to the top of the building, but boy its worth it for the view as you will see from the photo. Prices for the rooms are pretty reasonable – I have been staying here for a week and I pay $18 a night for the room and that includes a pretty cool breakfast.
